2013 was a good year for Sofia International Airport too. Wizz Air announced the 4th aircraft for its Bulgarian base at Sofia airport. The new Airbus A320 aircraft will be delivered in Sofia in May 2014. Terminal 2 opened the expanded passenger’s gallery. It was opened by the Minister of Transportation Daniel Papazov.  Two floors of glass, chrome and aluminum; lifts for disabled and art posters on the walls – these are the first impressions of extensions Terminal 2.

“With this expansion Sofia Airport provides additional comfort for the passengers and better service while meeting the security and safety requirements.” said airport’s manager Hristo Shterinov.

The airport earned a new category for its Instrumental Landing System – IIIB. Now airplanes can land in thick fog with only 75 meters visibility. The improvements will reduce the number of flights diverted to other airports in very thick fog, and save the inconvenience to passengers by such measures.

Record passenger traffic was reported. The number of passengers passed through Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport has increased to 251,792 in November. This shows growth of 7.5% compared to the same period last year.
